Questions

Good to know

How far ahead should we ask?

Reach out 6 to 12 months before your hoped-for premiere. That leaves time to talk through the project, write the piece and give your students time to learn it.

What does a commission cost?

Fees depend on the length, level and instrumentation of the piece, and consortiums share the cost. Adrian talks through fees once you’ve had a first conversation about the project and both agree it’s a good fit.

Who owns the piece?

Adrian owns the piece. Your ensemble always gives the first performance, and the piece always carries an inscription and dedication that your school or organization approves ahead of time. Leap Year Music has the first right to publish the work, though it may be published elsewhere; wherever it’s published, your inscription and dedication stay with it.

Can Adrian conduct the premiere?

Yes. Many commissions pair the premiere with a clinic or guest conducting visit.
